Banger Bike Challenge 2008

The Colonel’s Fund is a new charity which has been set up to provide help and support for members of the Grenadier Guards who have been wounded in action, and for families of Grenadier Guards who have been killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan.

His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh is the patron and Colonel of The Regiment.

The Band of the Grenadier Guards will be undertaking a two week concert tour of the UK in August this year with all proceeds going to The Colonel’s Fund. In October the band will be undertaking a support role in Germany for three weeks. Our proposal is that John, Adrian, Ian, Jim & Dave are obtaining motorcycles with a value of no more than £500 each.

I am sure you appreciate how reliable a bike of that value is likely to be!

Any maintenance they may need on our travels will be carried out by us. The challenge will then be to attempt to get to every venue on the UK concert tour and in Germany covering approximately 3500 miles on these bikes.

So many people have told us that we will never make it all the way round we decided to get people to sponsor us for every mile each bike covers or a flat rate, then donate all the proceeds to The Colonels Fund.

We have called it the Banger Bike Challenge.

The Colonel’s Fund is a registered charity. Number: 1062257
